I created a little survey for my project. I was wondering if you could help a gal out and answer some questions? There are only five and it'll take five minutes tops! ReplyDelete2) Recently, I heard Pakistan hung some of its prisoners. Other than that, I'm mostly hearing World Cup related stuff.
3) There's lots of music and folk dances. Honestly that's it, I never really bothered to learn much about them >.<
4) Diverse. I'd like to listen to some of this music and maybe attempt (and fail) to learn a folk dance.
5) Yes. I love travelling in general, and Pakistan is quite different in atmosphere compared to most of my usual vacations. And I think I would have plenty of stories to tell. :)

ReplyDelete2. I know that... it has a lot of poorer areas. Which I think also plays into question 6. And good food. And that it's similar to Indian and Middle Eastern cultures.

6. As I mentioned in 2, that it's poor, that people are uneducated, etc.
I'm going to refrain from answering these as i know basically nothing about Pakistan. However, I would like to visit the country for that reason, and just to explore, as it seems like a cool place.

2. Mostly political stuff - involvement of US foreign influences, the CIA, Saudia Arabia, the Taliban...
3. Not much - a bit about religious influences
4. I have respect for Pakistans people and history but don't know too much... have some concern that secularism is being overwhelmed by religious fundamentalism in some parts of the country.
5. I would love to see the country someday

ReplyDelete2. Ah I wish I knew more than I do. I do not know anything about the country's specific culture actually. The only thing I ever hear about the middle east on the news is negative so why even bother with that.

4. My opinion of middle eastern/ Muslim culture in general is that is is rich in history and religious ties. I think it is a beautiful culture!
5. I think that would really depend on who I was with and where I was going. I am personally really fascinated by the middle east and would love to go see the architecture and culture but I don't know how safe it would be considering my lack of knowledge.

ReplyDelete2. I know that recently the government called for the release of the terrorist leader accused of orchestrating the attacks in Mumbai a few years ago. Other than that I haven't seen Pakistan in the news recently though.
3. I know it has a lot in common with Indian culture, but with a stronger Muslim influence. I mean I've spent a lot of time in Hyderabad, which has a large Muslim population and history, so I'd assume the bigger cities in Pakistan are a little bit like that? And I love Hyderabad.
4. See above! I think the culture is great. I'm just not a huge fan of the government.
5. For sure! Scenery and architecture are big reasons to visit. I really want to see the excavation sites for the Indus River Valley civilization too.
